Glad did as the rental company charged me £200 for a damaged lock which wasn't damaged when I handed the car back but they were a shower of complete W@****s. They charged my card the £200 but recovered it from the insurance no problem. It was about £15 for 5 days cover and the car was £8 a day. Can't remember the name of the company though. We quickly stopped when we did some maths around how unlucky you'd need to be to incur car damage that justified taking the extra insurance out. We are also going to Italy in May (Tuscany) and have rented with Hertz - so now you are getting me worried. But you are all travelled and knowledgeable folk.</p> <p>Off to Italy next month and renting a car from Hertz while there. The 'supercover', which I would usually get, for the week is more than the actual hire cost.</p> <p>Must be the italian drivers, anyhow I was wondering if anyone had used any of the third party 'excess cover' folk to save you having to do this.</p> <p>Hoping to get Roro used to bike seat while over there so she's good for the nursery run. (shoehorning it back onto topic :) ) </p>
