Phone call is time-stamped as is tachograph - but if vehicle is on local rules might not be easily linked.

I reported a coach driver (Parks - contracting the E-G Citylink service, and they kept older/more staid drivers for coach tours). He printed reconciliation slip after Harthill and proceeded to cash up after his shift as we travelled at 100Kph - drifting twice on to hard shoulder. As the machine printing time linked to the tachograph I was able to raise this bad practice issue with Citylink.

You can report bad driving and dangerous vehicles to VOSA 0300 123 9000 or the local area office 01506 445200, or e-mail enquiries@vosa.gov.uk. Chances are that if a vehicle has faults the other operating standards will also be low.

As ever, these things happen pretty quickly and I never got sight of any identifying livery on the tipper truck.

"if your brief description relates to a tipper type wagon then dont hold your breath for a response."

Yep 'fraid so.

Some firms more 'notorious' than others.

It seems to be one section of the haulage industry that attracts the word "cowboy".

sorry, meant to say, most trucks now have a tracking system whereby the transport office knows exactly who is driving what vehicle, where exactly, down to about 50 yards, it is, how heavy it is, and the speed at which it is travelling ! "sorry mate, i dont know where our motors are all the time ! " does nt cut it any more ! if you know the time and the road, you can get him, or her !

get the firms name and report the driver. In my firm, various drivers have been reported for various incidents from smoking in the cab to mobile phone useage. Every time a report has to be logged, even if the accusation is unsubstantiated, if in future there is ever an accident involving the drivers concerned then the police, vosa h+s exec will get to see the drivers record. unfortubately though, if your brief description relates to a tipper type wagon then dont hold your breath for a response.
be safe !

If you identified even just the business, in these cases I think it's always worth writing to the director of operations (or similar) to notify them.

Sure, they won't fire a driver for an unsubstantiated report that they were on the phone (there's even a fair chance that they were on the phone to the works office!) but relatively few companies will be comfortable with repeat exposure. That is to say, suppose the same driver does crash while on the phone and it's a matter of public record that he's been complained about driving dangerously in this way before, but no action was taken.

That does *not* look good...

Cycling down Lochend Road South this morning. Cyclist coming the other way is passing parked cars so out in the road. Great big truck (the ones that carry gravel and such like) overtakes her lurching out onto my side of the road. I tuck in on the left - fortunately no parked cars on my side. Guess what? The driver's on the phone!

It makes my blood boil!!!
