"Well looks like he has started to pull in the cash."

Not sure if that's the case, that article is two unrelated things pegged together by the fact that they are about cycling in London.

Part 1 Trek gives money to LCC. The Trek boss said the industry should support advocacy groups nearly 3 years ago.

Part 2 "Trek's announcement of its support for LCC comes a day after Transport for London's advertising and marketing agency contacted those bike companies which attended the first Cycling Revolution Forum last month (a trade-only event, which will be opened to other, non-commercial 'stakeholders' in the future).

TfL, via Carlson Marketing, is seeking 'partners' to help offset some of the £111m to be invested in cycling in London in 2010/11. "

I am a bit worried about point 11

"Retailers could play a role at the point of sale in encouraging new cyclists to take up products and services to help improve safety".

Safety is more about what is happening in the cyclist head rather than things which they can buy. OK so good maintenance is important, and things like lights are useful, but cycling is basically a safe activity. The actual level of risk per Km travelled is about the same (or slightly safer) than being a pedestrian. The best way of making cycling safer is to get more people cycling, and one of the best ways of putting people off cycling is actively sell them "Safety" equipment, it sends the wrong message.

"They'll invite the manufacturers and, in classic US terms, the lobbyists with the money, in order that they can massage their egos enough to tap them for a bit of sponsorship money later."

That sponsorship is not just for TfL is it, we are increasingly importing the American political systems which is not good for our democracy.

"Boris is after money to run his political campaign"

Perhaps, though I thought the article was about TfL looking for 'partners' - but it was a bit vague'.

Here in lays the problem, the politicians put the interests of business above those of ordinary people. Boris is after money to run his political campaign, not votes at this stage, he sees advertising as the key to getting those later.

"

"Unless TfL actually engage with the city's cyclists their policies are going to fail. Well intentioned though their ideas might be, there can be no success without the support and input of the end users of any scheme."

TfL has said interest groups will be invited for their own meetings at London's City Hall.
