Well, I think kaputnik has comprehensively answered that one. Nothing for me to do here.

A703 is alright, traffic moves fast but it's not toooooo busy and never had any problems on it - but it's damn boring! NCN1 over the granites is a much quieter and more pleasant and scenic ride, then cross the river and approach Peebles through Cardrona along one of the local Borders cycle routes.

A nice alternative if you want a straighter route would be to head for Newtongrange and take a right just before the Lothianbridge Viaduct, for Carrington / Temple. Take the back roads across the moor (lovely ride) to join A703 at Waterhead. Then south down A703 to Eddleston. Then right up the hill to come through Meldons which joins onto the A72 near Peebles.

I did this last year (with family), and just followed main roads. Went fine! But discussion thread suggests various options

Hi,
Going to do a run down to Peebles soon and was thinking- Rver esk path, Dalkeith path, short stretch of A701 then A703 the rest of the way. Anyone done this route? Is the A703 a dangerous road to cycle? I'm not too fast on my hybrid so liable to be on this road for some time.
Any advice appreciated.
