NCN1 over the granites is a much quieter and more pleasant and scenic ride, then cross the river and approach Peebles through Cardrona along one of the local Borders cycle routes.</p> <p>A nice alternative if you want a straighter route would be to head for Newtongrange and take a right just before the Lothianbridge Viaduct, for Carrington / Temple. Take the back roads across the moor (lovely ride) to join A703 at Waterhead. Then south down A703 to Eddleston. Anyone done this route? Is the A703 a dangerous road to cycle? I'm not too fast on my hybrid so liable to be on this road for some time.<br /> Any advice appreciated. </p>
