BDW eschews lycra or any actual kit that would be of help on a long cycle/walk in favour of jeans and large cotton parkas [all of which ended up soaking wet weighing a ton in one of my panniers, he also eschews panniers and tools to get back wheel off]. The man in the outdoors shop actually said that on the hills DENIM KILLS.
