Professor Sheldon recommends building a little bath out of tinfoil and soaking it in neatsfoot oil, then cycling on it in shorts you can afford to throw away...

Proofride worked just fine for me!

New Brooks B68 Aged saddle arrived today. Somewhat unexpectedly, the instructions indicate that, for 'Aged' saddles, the proofide should only be applied to the underside of the saddle. Still need the stuff, nonetheless, so will try TBW unless Kaputnik advises otherwise.

There's lots of stuff on t'interweb about why only Proofide should be used on Brooks saddles. Some of this advice is on the Brooks web site (QED) but some odd alternative suggestions elsewhere (such as immersing new saddles in motor oil, or using shoe polish) do sound rather doubtful. So I'll stick with the pukka gear...

It's changed colour. My first tin was red, now it's pale yellow.

My OU degree smells of Proofide because the tin was on its side it in the cupboard and leaked a bit.

Proofride (from memory) is tallow, beeswax, fish oil and vegetable oils.

Delicious! Spread it on yer toast.

Just as well it is laced with citronella.

IMK I live just down from TBW, if I remember I will check in the window this afternoon as it's normally there, next to the massive Brooks saddles with the massive springs.

If you have to use Proofide on your saddle then the vegetarian ship has already sailed.

Well... unless you planned to eat it.

Noted. TBC website suggests it's not in stock there. Given TBW isn't so far from PY I might pop along after my Friday morning cuppa.

Simple question: anyone know an Edinburgh LBS that definitely has Brooks Proofide saddle treatment in stock?
