Because it is a very easy and completely risk free way of bullying someone. It is really horrible when that sort of thing happens and I hope you are starting to feel a bit more calm now.

"What on earth drives motorists to play mock death with vulnerable road users?"

I think it might be the kind of driver who's already up to his/her eyeballs in other offences. IMO of course but check this story:

Sadly an all too familiar tale. Don't think it was a Punto tho., they don't do much more than 35 mph [trying to joke but not good - I had someone throw a beer can at me from a moving vehicle and I was walking at the time - there is a small number of d-heads out there driving around with no brains]

I had a nice day at work today, a fun ride into town to buy things and a nice chat with the girl in the shop, a pleasant conversation with another cyclist on Princes St and the usual uneventful potter through the Meadows and homewards.

But now I'm raging. Someone in a fading red Fiat Punto (or equivalent) thought it would be tremendous fun to blast past me at 40mph leaving literally only inches of space to spare, while leaning on the horn and scaring the living hell out of me plodding uphill at 10mph.

Actually I was scared until I realised I was still alive, and with the resigned raised eyebrow of an everyday traffic commuter I resorted to a little digital communication and muttered something rude under my breath. No helmet cam, and no memory of the car's reg other than it was made in the last 10 years and began with an S. If I had the full details, I would be taking it further.

What on earth drives motorists to play mock death with vulnerable road users? How close a line are 'they' willing to tread simply because they feel the need to vent their frustrations? And good grief, I wasn't even in the middle of the road, it's two lanes each way, and two wide lanes at that. The only thing I am guilty of is having the temerity to be on the road at all.

Tomorrow I will have to keep my spidey senses on full alert, watching my mirrors like a hawk, instead of relaxing in the warm weather and listening to the birds and the roar of cars.
