@Greenroofer, that wasn't a badly judged overtake imho, it was dangerous driving pure and simple. At the very least driving without due care and attention, how else do you classify overtaking into oncoming traffic as the road narrows in broad daylight?!?

I assume you've sent this to Lothian and Borders finest, such clear evidence with a date and time and the plates clearly readable should be more than enough for a "bit of advice" I'd have thought?

Sunglasses reduce the ability to glare at people, though. Especially as it can be quite effective, like the compelling stare of the bloke splitshift encountered at the Gyle.

I'll have to wait till I'm home before I can watch these. :(

My Veho Muvi has more or less died - I've forked out the princely sum of £15 for a pair of sunglasses with a camcorder in them. Much easier for non-helmet wearers to get the camera pointed exactly where you want. Plus mounting on the handlebars just shakes all over the place!

Of course the camera might be awful, but figured I'd give it a go.

I had the number 21 Lothian Bus do a similar thing to Duncans plumbers van this morning on the South Gyle Broadway / Crescent roundabout. Stopped at the line, waited for me to get close then lumbered out in front of me. I yelled "nice one" at the driver (window open) and caught his eye in the wing mirror and gave him my best patronising "well get a move on then!" wave.

It is also cranking up for festival silly season driving from most vehicles on road [however, was laffing at cyclist coming wrong way down one-way street in Newington last night, he was laffing too - also according to Jon Snow not technically illegal but still...]

Thirty pounds, you say? Might have a look. I think this lot...

...were builders rather than plumbers but they were away too soon after the initial encounter to get a picture. I was heading from Restalrig Road to Lochend Drive, already being harassed by a car who didn't think I should have been on the right-hand-side of the road to turn right at the roundabout. Given how close to me they wee, L8 JDD above must also technically have not given way to them and pulled out in their path, though he'd obviously seen me as he pulled back when glared at. I wasn't hugging the inside of the roundabout as there's a wee bit which acts as a ford across the big trench parallel to the Sleigh Drive exit. The van followed me up Lochend Drive, zooming past as soon as we were over the first speed cushion and pulling in front of me at the first pinch-point, though in a position where it looked as if he expected me to be going to his left. I couldn't make out what he said as he passed but strained my throat to yell that traffic approaching from the right on roundabouts should be yielded to. He was through the lights at Sainsbury by the time I got there but emerged from Abbey Lane as I was waiting in the ASL, presumably repelled by the road closures. I was behind him heading into Melrose Terrace but was caught by the lights at the top but still passed him again down Waterloo Place, resisting the urge to wave each time.

I thought Greenroofers happened at Duddingston - I was not paying enough attention [ha, like the drivers]. Duncans happens everyday but not as blatantly - guy was kind of inviting you to thump into the side of the van by pulling out in front of you very very slowly. Most days you just have to brake hard as they speed off after judging you will just miss them. I also liked the horn and the OI! I have another plumber I would advise you not to use they claim to be FAST.

The old 'overtake and squeeze' manouver is very popular, though I've not endured any with camera attached yet.

Is the footage good enough to read the plates?

"Never mind the big yellow sign that says the bridge narrows to a single lane, I'll go past anyway and perhaps then I'll think about what might be ahead"

I used to go that way too and that narrow bridge is particularly bad - the road there is quite a rat run between Gogar up to the Calder Road - it's also narrow, twisty and with some very poor site lines.

That gives me an excuse to post my first cyclecam video (also taken on a £30 keyfob camera).

I thought this was really quite a bad bit of overtaking.
http://youtu.be/E7_6-LDNdFc

...although my experience so far has been things that feel pretty dire in real life often don't look as bad on the video and this one was even worse than in looks!

I got the experimental cheapo keyfob cam after nearly getting wiped out by 'RS Plumbing' in Queensferry a few weeks back, then this yesterday morning over at the Royal Elizabeth Yard turning:
