In Glasgow JC Decaux has practically carte blanche to slap up bus shelters without the controlling check of a planning application, and as a result has put in many obstructive and dangerous shelters blocking the footways and masking sightlines for those on the carriageway. Same happened in Cambridge with off road cycle route (Clear Channel <ironic> this time)

But as we are on the topic of the Forth Bridge, what about the very poor delivery of signage and appropriate diversions for pedestrians and cyclists whilst the dismantling of access scaffolding was taking place. No advance signing at the North end for Southbound cyclists rolling up on the East side and then having to back-track and should you come in on the East side at the South end (to get views of the rail bridge) then the sign for the diversion is on the barrier sending you back and advising the use of a fairly steep flight of steps (not recommended with a loaded bike) although a better route is on the access road that crosses under.

Always amazes on the detail that generally exists to deliver a diversion for cars but how often cyclists and pedestrians are totally forgotten, even with the instructions to provide for all road users in Chapter 8 manual for signing temporary wprks·

Some time ago that happened to Dave, when he was heading towards Edinburgh on his upright, rather than his invisiblebike. On his headcam video the other cyclist 'suddenly appeared' around the bus shelter and the whole incident unfolded with a familiar inevitability.

I've emailed Forth Bridge and Sustrans maintanace address as they have a mail box to alert them of blockages and obstructions on National Cycle Routes.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll stop at the shelter next time to see who maintains it.

Dave - the bus stop is probably the responsibility of Fife Council, although they have probably contracted out management and maintenance to someone like Adshel.

Bus companies almost never provide/own bus infrastructure.

I regularily commute to Edin from Fife on the bike cross the bridge. On my way home last night someone emerged from behind the bus shelter on the north side into the peath me me on my bike as I was heading towards Inverkeithing. I shouted and managed to avoid him but I've oftern cycled past that bus stop with a large advertising poster on one side, and thought some day someone is going to wonder out from behind it and step into my path as I cycle down the cycle path.

I think I'll compase a letter of complaint to the Bridge Authority, though I'm sure they'll pass the buck to the bus companies who obviously make revenue from the Advertising screen.
