We've a date, and it looks as if it will be somewhat family orientated, but don't let the presence of sprogs put you off...

It was nice to see the great variety of recumbents there

Don't encourage them;-)

Bella Bathurst 'The Bicycle Book' dismisses folding bikes, Moultons and recumbents.
I loved her 'The Lighthouse Stevensons' book so was bit surprised to read the following:

"They look ridiculous and can't corner" (intro xiii)

Looking ridiculous is fair enough but to say they can't corner is so untrue. I reckon she has a real phobia of them and only toned it down a bit when the book was sub edited;-)

What she would have said about the Hase Pino....?

Yes, sorry, should have specified - the not following roads bit is no problem, it's the "don't count this bit of the route towards the distance / elveation" that I can't figure out. I got round it by doing separate routes for each section before / after ferry.

kaputnik, baldcyclist - MapmyRide - Ferries

May be more than one way, but this worked for me - when you are mapping the route and get to a loch, just untick the 'Follow Roads' option in the toolbar and click on the ferry destination - it then draws a straight line from one side to the other. Once you are at the ferry destination point, re-tick 'Follow Roads'.

You will need to make a wee -ve adjustment to the miles.

Go to the bit crossing loch lomond

@kaputnik, mapmyride can cope with ferry crossings, I had same problem before. Asked @mapmyride on twitter, and they got back really quickly with a setting change which allowed this - of course I can remember what setting change is, but if you contact them they get back in touch really quickly.

I have Garmin's mapping software at home so I could export the KMZ from mapmyride into that, join them together then export to somewhere that I can project a nice picture of the route (probably google earth)

In the past I have downloaded the kmz (I think) files and joined them up by removing top and tail bits of code and uploaded the completed file - probably to MapMyRide - think would work with EveryTrail too.

I'll do a post of the route and some pictures when I work out the best way to display the route in one go, as I've mapmyrided it out in day-long sections. Also, mapmyride cannot accomodate a ferry journey being part of your ride.

there's metered parking in George Square. Access via Chrichton St. Or also parking on Buccluech Place. Neither likely to be too busy this time of year.
