Interestingly in some parts of England that i've been to any way. The bus lane signs have LOCAL BUS or AUTHORISED BUS beside the timings.

My understanding is that if you have more than eight seats (inc. driver) then you can use the bus lanes.

Special caveat appears to be in place for LWB Land Rovers. Some of them can (or could) carry 12 people but are specifically not counted as buses by the DVLA.

I'm sure Morningsider or someone else will correct me if I'm wrong.

Strange that. If you went by the contents of Edinburgh's greenways, everything including the Rabbie's Trailburners "see Nessie and Rob Roy from the luxury of an air-conditioned, tinted-windowed, turbo-harged transit van" things is a bus, whether they are on public transport service or not.

wingpig - there is an England-wide free bus pass for pensioners, but it only works on local buses and not intercity coaches.

Whilst you're at it, see if you can get uniform acceptance of all UK codgers in all component countries. My dad's just bought a packet of City Singles for when he pops up during the festival seeing as his Lincolnshire codger-travel-permit doesn't work east of the Trent, north of the Humber or south of the Wash.

yeah LRT upgraded their ticket machines a couple of years ago (!) presumably all the other operators were given the money to do the same. I think your right it was for the pensioners cards.

The report claims equipment is already in place for all of Scotland's buses. Presumably this is for pensioners' free bus passes, ridacards, etc. SPT are only talking about implementation on the clockwork orange just now...

I'm sure whatever technology they choose, it will be entirely incompatible with the LB ridacard and the pensioner's free bus card.

First Scotrail have kind of a precurser to this with their smart card. I present though, unfortunately, its only being trialed for the Glasgow - Edinburgh commuters. If it does expand lets hope it can be used on their busses and perhaps Lothians busses too, as well as Glasgow's transport providers.
