Barcelona was where that study referenced by the BMJ which was very briefly mentioned on R4 a few days ago found to demonstrate that 'the health benefits of cycling outweigh the risks'. Barcelona is one of the stops where one of those relative-youngster-boat-cruise initiatives takes people round the city on mountain bikes. Do they mean amongst the town planners, council-equivalent and non-cycling general public?</p> <p>I would assume that the main change a lot of cyclists make to a city is to make the residents or regular visitors <em>used</em> to cycles. </p>
