The problem with the proposed 'documentary' is that the makers don't seem to have much of an idea of how to answer the question. Still, I'm sure it will be a nice jaunt around NYC, Istanbul, Barcelona, if they can find the money...

Again, from the bike blog.

Obviously it'd be nice if they were doing Edinburgh but it's probably too small and far away when viewed from outside.

"and they also have their eye on Barcelona 'because the climate is nice but for some reason there isn't much interest in cycling'"

I'd have said the climate was far too hot, but that's just me. Barcelona was where that study referenced by the BMJ which was very briefly mentioned on R4 a few days ago found to demonstrate that 'the health benefits of cycling outweigh the risks'. Barcelona is one of the stops where one of those relative-youngster-boat-cruise initiatives takes people round the city on mountain bikes. Do they mean amongst the town planners, council-equivalent and non-cycling general public?

I would assume that the main change a lot of cyclists make to a city is to make the residents or regular visitors used to cycles.
