From Balerno to Carnwath it is straightish with good sightlines, though the cars sometimes pelt along it has few vehicles. Once you cross the M74 however, you are then in bandit country. There are presumably a fair number of bored young men living in rural Scotland, who have nothing better to do than drive their vehicles as fast as possible for a few thrills. Also given the distances to local pubs in many rural communities there must be a bit more drink driving than in the heavily policed towns and cities.</p> <p>Maybe that half a million could have been spent putting up some "SLOW DOWN" signs and a few speed cameras? Straighter, wider and faster roads = safer.</p> <p>SNP spending £500,000 working out the best way to spend more money on the A82. </p>
