I think I had 4 families try out the Helios - in addition to forumers.

Very good fun. Sorry to hear that the smallest Roibeard got tired-out. He was sooo full of energy and enthusiasm.

Definitely great fun was had by all - we did seem to intrigue all that passed by!

My daughter Mhairi did indeed enjoy riding everything and discovering that she could pilot our Pino... The fact that Joel could stoke the Helios was then a bonus - I think he grabbed every passing adult to pilot him!

I could easily convince Ruth that we need a Helios for the kids to ride, if only we had the space for it!

I'd echo the thanks offered to SRD and alanr, the kids thoroughly enjoyed the Sprint and Helios and sharing the ride back home made it go so much more smoothly...

Very many thanks to SRD, Roibeard, alanr, partners, children and others for a really fun time - and for keeping an expert eye on junior while trying your various steeds.

The Pino was incredible fun - cycling as a solo pilot initially felt like steering a single-decker bus from the back seat, but quickly feels quite natural. Being stoker is ace - like cycling an armchair.

The Helios feels ridiculously luxurious compared to my road bike - like cycling on marshmallows.

Of course, you are all welcome to experience the bone shaking joys of a carbon forked aluminium road bike at the next meet up.

Sorry I missed this. We had to hand back our rented place and it over ran, plus when we got up today if was pourning down with rain, but only slowed around 12 so the missus wasn't keen on heading across the river.

Roibeard - meant to say, if you're trying to get to RussellRoad again (its a great route to the botanics etc with kids), follow the reverse of the route I showed you, past Harrison Park and come straight down Ardmillan and then onto Murieston road, crossing Dalry at the lights. Much less stressful than the return.

Rabid Hamster spotted Alanr on trike at Slateford. We were in Berlingo with Helios tandem on top and bikes in back on LB business.
Stirling was fun too but hard work.... only just back now.

The past few days I was down in t'south, getting rained on, riding 15 miles of the scariest and least pleasant cycle path I've ever known, and looking at posh bicycles and cathedrals and windmills, and didn't get back to Embra until about 2pm today. I wasn't sure if y'all would still be at Cramond or not, so headed on over to find out. Well, I pretty much answered my own question. :-(

Sounds like you had a great time though!

So thank you all for a lovely time, and maybe we could do it again sometime - or do a laidback tour for the forum-ites?

whee!! We had FUN. As did various random strangers who tried the bikes. Especially, the kind gentleman visiting from London with his family who bought all the kids ice-creams :)

And junior SRD thinks that Junior Roibeard is very clever for cycling very fast and in traffic. She is tremendously impressed.

and nail it to a small wooden stick. I'd like to suggest we make our was a little east from the Cramond river as we have very young boys who will want to explore and if we're somewhere safe I'll be happyer, like adjacent to the beach on the safe grassy area.

"I'm not sure if Cramond is big enough to get lost in?"

Definitely.

Though perhaps not the old bit where the Almond meets the Forth.

If you are arriving by road - down the hill until you reach the bottom and turn right.

If you go via the NEPN (from Russell Road) go straight on 'over' the roundabout, down the lovely smooth tarmac and turn left at the Tea Rooms.

Keep going until you see strange bikes.

Alternatively spot Cramond Island and keep going until you find the nearest bit of tarmac to it.

Thank you all so much for your help. A quick look over my Spokes map which I now have shows me that I can use the Roseburn path all the way to Cramond (and back), and that I can get to the Roseburn Path from Dalry Road via Russell Road, as chdot says (thank you for that). So I'll be there, then, with no steps needed. Carrying a recumbent trike up or down steps could be a fitness training in itself ... thank you very much, SRD and Dave Crampton for your help. Are we saying, arrive at 11:30 or so? That should be easy from Baberton.

Drumbrae, both ways... groan..

Alanr, WARNING, I would not advise the riverbank route down to Cramond, as it is littered with steps, and not just one or two, but in one place you climb only to descend 10m later... many steps = not nice with a recumbent, if its a Trike.

Like Arellcat says, a recumbent trike is *reasonably* risk-free to lend and mine (an ICE Sprint 2FS) is fitted with easy-adjust kit, so would there be any interest if I were to turn up with it?

I'd be interested, the Pino has whet my appetite for trying a recumbent...

Like Arellcat says, a recumbent trike is *reasonably* risk-free to lend and mine (an ICE Sprint 2FS) is fitted with easy-adjust kit, so would there be any interest if I were to turn up with it? I'd be pretty happy to offer rides. And it'd be a lovely chance to meet up with you all. My only question is, what's the best way from Baberton (near Gillespie Crossroads on the Lanark Road) to Cramond? I ask, because I normally use the trike on roads rather than cycle paths and I did go on one of LaidBack's tours, including Cramond, but we returned to the Meadows and I'm not sure of the best route from Baberton; does anyone have any suggestions (bear in mind that my trike is about 60cm wide)?

Just a couple of FYIs :

The Cramond Inn used to do good food but it's been less impressive in that department for some time now.

I've used the Cramond Falls cafe a couple of times recently - they seem to struggle with anything close to a rush and the last time we were there even the limited menu was.. well, limited. And a request for a slight variation to their surviving toastie range was met with a horrified 'Oh! No, I can't do that...' A pity, as it's not a bad location, but the Cramond Gallery Bistro cafe thingy may be a better bet.

I might - or might not - catch the end of the meet, as I'm busy until Saturday afternoon. Will anyone still be around by 2pm or thereabouts?
