If you're going to do your own home made park and ride I don't really see the point of driving further than you have to, although I guess it depends on number and frequency of buses.

Once you get past Morningside Station they do thin out a bit.

It's not really a problem that can be fixed by making the CPZ bigger.

"I noticed this morning that the ongoing radial displacement of car drivers who park on Comiston Road and then (presumably) catch the bus into town, has reached almost to Buckstone!"

It's already in Dalkeith, hence the the move to introduce car park charges (The first hour will be free. A two hour stay will cost £1; three hours will be £2; and four hours will cost £4. Parking for more than four hours at this 90 space car park will be £10.)

I noticed this morning that the ongoing radial displacement of car drivers who park on Comiston Road and then (presumably) catch the bus into town, has reached almost to Buckstone! Once CEC cements its CPZlite in Morningside and Cluny, Riselaw and Braid will follow, and it won't be very long before the parking starts at Fairmilehead crossroads and makes it difficult to leave one's own house without cutting between <strike>parked</strike> abandoned cars.

@kaputnik, sticker is the worst they can do on private land, can't tow or issue a PCN. Only the polis, cooncil or DVLA can do that.

"And don't forget all those pesky shoppers who want to spend money in our city and would like to take their bulky purchases home safely in the boot of their car, instead of struggling on and off buses."

There really is an obsession with people buying bulky stuff in town...

I guess since there are no carrots available to get the commuters out of their cars the council has to resort to a ruddy gert big stick.

So these are kinda 'resident-permit-lite'?

1 - 3PM is the "go out on your lunch and move the car" window. Like the people at my work who park in the Gyle shopping centre car park and know if they move it at lunch time they wont get a big sticker on their window, or towed.

"whats so special about 1pm to 3pm?"

It's designed to be 'just enough' to stop commuters leaving their cars all day.

That has what has been upsetting the good people of Morningside all these years. Poor people come along and leave their horrible little cars scattered about all day.
Or something like that.

Got information about this through the door today:

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/priorityparking

Basically, residents can buy a parking permit which will allow them to park in the new priority bays between 1.30pm and 3pm. Outwith those times anyone can park there.

There have been rumours of this for a while, in Morningside at least, all driven by the local Tory councillor. It seemed like a bit of a crusade for him so he may be partly behind this?

A very small number of yellow lines are on the Morningside plan, inc. on Cluny Gardens heading east towards Braid Avenue. That would help to free up the feeder bike lane to the ASL which currently has cars permanently parked on it.
