I've only ever done it on the Kirky course and on that it is 25'32"

Next year is my sub-25 year. This I have decided.

Mine on a standard road bike is 25:05 but I only did it for a couple of seasons.

Mine (on the fixed wheel, when I could still legally take part) is 24:58

I do the wrong sort of cycling for that now. Back in the day I used to race from Dunfermline to the train at South Queensferry (and vice versa) which was probably quite specific, if a bit shorter than the Kirky 10.

I have thought about getting an ordinary bike and going back in with ERC but I think I've grown away from it now. We might try triathlon (or duathlon) though...

Hmmm, the U in the layby may be problematic with traffic no? The Clarion route uses the roundabout just outside Kirky as the turn...

Go on then, what's your PB? Make me sick...

The ERC route is the opposite of the Clarion route. I.e from Kirliston just before sports centre, turning at the layby at Bridgend and then back the same route, to finish outside sports centre. There are faint red lines sprayed on the kerb to mark start and finish.

The "lump" is (from Kirkliston) up and over the M9, which is a wee climb on a bad surface, then down the hill after Winchburgh, repeating in reverse on way back. It's pretty straight, just 2 real turns in the road to speak of (not including the U at the layby)

What's the route like Kappers? I've done one single solitary time trial with the Clarion Club and their TT runs from a bit west of Kirkliston - out and back course with a lump in the middle.

I was quite pleased that on my Kaff, with a Brooks saddle, no tri-bars, my 3/4 troos on, and having ridden to the start (though I guess that might count as a warm-up) I managed 31m31s.

I'd love to try and ride sub-30m, but just didn't have the time to commit to going regularly.

For those of you interested in such things, during the (ahem) summer, Edinburgh Road Club runs a weekly 10 mile Time Trial from the Kirkliston Leisure Centre.

Here are some photos I took last night, which was the last night of the season and the rights to the Ian McCulloch Memorial trophy were up for grabs.

Pointy hats, club skinsuits and TT bikes strictly optional - most people just ride their "normal" road bikes with some clip-on tri-bars. I had never ridden a time trial until I pitched up earlier this year to give it a shot. Liked it so much I went back as often as I could and accumulated some tri-bars and a (yellow) pointy hat of my very own along the way under some delusion that they would make me go faster...

I'm not really into racing that much, but liked that the atmosphere was very much about bettering yourself and not others. It didn't matter if you were at the bottom end of the time range, so long as you did better than last week you'd get a pat on the back and if you didn't you'd get encouragement to do better the next week.
