"It's open every Sunday between April & September 2-4pm and usually nobody goes..."

Good reason to have a CCE outing!(?)

@ac - yeah, guy told us the same. It's open every Sunday between April & September 2-4pm and usually nobody goes...

Shows the power of marketing for the Open Doors weekend.

Bus wash was fun. Our driver told us it was only his second time through, he had a wet arm from the first time through as he hadn't shut the window. It was a little too loud in the depot for our 3 year old however.

Hankchief, we went to the tower a couple of years ago and the guy commented that they had been open every Sunday throughout the summer but most weeks it was very quiet. I don't know if that's still the same.

For us: West Port Garden, The Magdalen Chapel (inc. Scotland's only pre-reformation stained glass window), The Assembly Hall briefly then a hike down to the bus depot which was the worst kind of hell. Too hot, too busy, too noisy. Bah, so we left after five minutes!

Having a buggy really didn't help although it was much quieter when we went two years back. On the journey home I did enjoy spotting people carting large bus stop signs across Edinburgh.

Brief stop off at Ratho Byres Forge on Sunday.

Tried to take the big bike up to Corstorphine tower. Started from Queensferry Road and made good progress until the slope increased dramatically.

Having done quite a bit of pushing we were then confronted with steps. I wasn't sure if I'd missed a gentler route so decided to push on, literally...

By the time we made it to the top they were turning people away because the queue was too long ;-(

Coming down was entertaining too...

I really should explore Corstorphine Hill on an 'ordinary' bike to get my bearing.

Took the boy to the bus depot. Got there not long after it opened but it was already heaving, and just got busier. Sat in a few old buses, bought a bus stop sign, put the boy in the police van, took a ride through the bus wash and then by that time he had had enough so we retreated to a playpark where he could safely run off some steam.

Fire Museum tomorrow will probably be equally frenetic with parents, children and anoraks.

Wasn't much to see other than a very messy workshop covered in sawdust, so a bit disappointing compared to the blacksmiths. The building itself is quite interesting.

Today we went to:

Ratho Byres Forge: some incredible blacksmithing and a really interesting tour. Could have stayed there for hours.

Gogar Cabinet Makers

Edinburgh Printmakers

Messed up our times so got to the Lothian Bus depot just as it was closing.
