Very full meeting of Shandon residents earlier this evening ... hall was standing-room only. Need for parking changes was widely recognised.

The main problem is that double parking is addressed by the police, not the wardens. If ticketing powers were extended to traffic wardens then we wouldnt get the ridiculous double parking outside of a space that we get in the CPZ (ie Marchmont Road).

Good for Gavin and all that, but, everyone knows this is a problem, why does it have to take a tragedy to get people to act on it? This issue was raised at nearly every community council meeting I've attended. It's not like it comes as a surprise. But people seem to think that the rules don't apply to 'them' or 'it won't hurt...

On a related note, my access to Polwarth Gardens along Polwarth place (ie opposite scotmid) was blocked this morning by a lorry, so I had to go up Harden Place and try to make a right. COULD NOT see on-coming traffic at all owing to cars parked on double yellows. Had to edge way out, and then got dirty looks from the cars, as though I shouldn't have been there. Extremely frustrating. hope they got a ticket, but suspect they were exhibiting a blue badge...

Harrison Road ok when heading downhill. I actually don't mind it uphill as cars don't have space to squeeze past (assuming traffic coming the other way).

Ashley Terrace is frustating going downhill, inevitably cars overtake you just past the canal then end up holding you up at the narrow bit.

Re. white lines - they are much better than nothing at all - certainly what we experienced on our driveway before and after getting one.

"Ditto Min - Needs to be double yellow not white bar"

Ideally, BUT white can be put down without the TRO consultation procedure.

"Classic case for a nice white I-bar. "

Which will make a nice white I-bar marked space for people to park on...

Agree that Harrison Road is a hateful road to cycle on. Harrison Gardens also suffers from parked car blockage at the entrance to the park.

Yes, AT generally OK - until you get towards Slateford Road (Shandon Place) - narrow with terrible surface.

Can't decide whether traffic calming on Harrison Road actually makes it better for cycling or not.

"Harrison Road/Gardens and Ogilvie Ter do not need CPZ as there are no flats on one side of the road so plenty free space..."

Not much free space on Ogilvie Terrace - especially where it matters -

Not sure how the red car squeezed into that space - no room to get a bike at either end.

Classic case for a nice white I-bar.

Beg to differ. Harrison Road shouldn't have parking on both sides (controlled or not). It is much too narrow for bikes and cars at the same time. If cars parked on both sides, as is usual on weekends, then you try to bike up/down, you end up with a trail of cars. Not fun, especially if with kids/trailer etc.

Yeah hope that goes as well as Harrison Road did
"Please write a letter back if you support CPZ"
Did not write back
CPZ goes ahead
Phone up - "how many wrote back?"
"38%"
"So only 38% supported it?"
"No it was write back if you object"
"No it wasn't it said on the letter... Oh I have lost it."

Damn

Now they charge a minimum £3 for the pay and display section. (just checked email from Andrew Burns and this is being removed - hoorah!)

Harrison Road/Gardens and Ogilvie Ter do not need CPZ as there are no flats on one side of the road so plenty free space...

I have now had it confirmed from senior Transport Officers that this ‘formal consultation’ will commence in the first week of October 2011 and that everyone in the streets mentioned above will receive a letter from the Council asking for their views.
