I use Schwabe Marathon Plus on three bikes now. Plenty grip for my liking. I've only had a problem when a faulty tube valve deflated the tyre slowly and made the back end a little unstable on roundabouts.

Specialized Armadillo. Below twenty pounds from SJS, usually. No problems with speed or grip and no punctures

Gatorskins are good. THey will puncture. But easy to change em. Also not bad value - couple years back about £15.

Marathon Plus - grip I have always thought fine, indeed too grippy - they slow me down. They do not puncture, touch woodenspoke because if they do, you can't get them off.

If you have to get to work to punch the clock before a certain time or have meetings that you should not be late for then Marathon Plus - maybe £23? These prices may have risen. I have not had to purchase anyas no punctures but clear;y I am getting one tomorrow.

Since the spokes (touch wood) seem sorted

wooden spokes is where you're going wrong. You want to try the metal ones. Well worth a shot.

Gatorskins all the way for commuting. Slick, fast-rolling, grippy compound, tough. Soft enough to put on and off without much bother. Enough said.

the Michelin Kyrlion Carbon seems to get good reviews
any issues I should be aware of from the 28c to 25c?
cheers

Well I am a big fan of Michelin Kyrlion Carbon. They are well reviewed. I find them quick, grippy and pretty good for puncture resistance. You should be able to get them for about £20 but I think only up to 25mm.

On the commuter I have Gatorskins Hardcase. According to the advertising these should be more puncture proof but its hard to tell. I think they are somewhat less grippy than the above in the wet (but that could be the balance on the bike? Different bike).

I have also had Marathons (hated - very slow no grip), Maxxis Colombiere (nice but not so good for commuting due to less puncture resistance), and have Conti GP4000s on th Van Nick (v nice but a bit spenny for commuting use).

all! lol

speed
grip
comfort
price(not looking to spend mad money,£20 odds a tyre?)
durability
colour

puncture proof, well we all like no punctures ever but I can manage a change if needs be
Since the spokes (touch wood) seem sorted I have had no punctures on the Vittorias
I would say they arent massive on grip though
dont really had a reference as i have been on 26" MTB wheels for the last few years

okay. So after my ongoing spoke issues with the boardman
the rear tyre blew today while parked up
checked and saw no broken spoke/rim tape
found a 1cm ish split in the tub
swapped the tube and after inflating, pop!
so on closer investigation

so,looking at a new tyre
that was a Vittoria Zaffiro in 700c x 28c
Any recommendations ones to avoid?
bikes used mainly for 10 mile each way cross city commute
