Mine has a grey waterproof/windproof/ear-covering thing which Velcros firmly yet comfortably underneath the chin and would still allow a helmet to be squeezed on top. Can't remember where it came from but I'll check.

I'd try the two year old one above from ebay. sizing is usually pretty forgiving at that age.

we got one of these from landsend, and it fits ours fine (will be too small by next year) but its not as good as the one we'd got for his sister, which was much thinner fleece, and less constricting.

Don't suppose any one has seen either a microfibre hat/balacava or merino hat that'll fit under a lid for a one year old? The coxwane's heid is feeling the cold.

Ah hah, was just thinking about looking for this exact thing for when the mercury drops, as little 'un's lungs don't like very cold conditions.

Had first wet commute with the little, she seemed okay, was wearing pink marshmallow suit + had the rain cape over top (she seemed to like it SRD!) and arrived dry if a little pink cheeked :)

Used to have a hand knitted balaclava about 40 years ago. I fancy one with a skip that allows you to fold the chin bit up onto the head bit and wear it as a natty hat when not too windy. Hope they are coming back into fashion now the 'RA have given it up. Still better than those pillow cases ETA were wearing last week. made them look like David Merrick meets the Pillbury Dough Man.

My four year old loves her balaclava and has been wearing it happily for at least 3 years now. It looks dreadful, but she prefers it to other hats and will ask to wear it. Got one for the new baby who hates it and screams when it goes on - his is thicker fleece and possibly feels more confining?

Good spot! My son hates wearing warm hats and scarves, but he might wear this as it's more like a hood.
