We couldn't decide on where to ride and eventually concluded that there were too many things needing doing at home and in the garden. Day ended with me barbecueing as the sun disappeared. It was gorgeous out, so still and calm. Bbq pretty good too -- peppers, mushrooms etc on skewers, then lamb chops and chorizo from the market, with couscous and yogurt and cucumber. Put aubergines on at the end, for babganoush later in the week. What a stunning weekend. Could not ask for better weather.

Today was chiller and if anything even lovelier.

Today's route was a bit longer - from Fairmilehead to Bush, Auchendinny, Howgate, Gladhouse, Middleton, up and over through the Granites to Innerleithen, across the Tweed to Cardrona via. Traquair, lunch at the new Glentress Peel, then back onto the main road and then up the Lyne Valley to Romanobridge then straight down A701 to Leadburn, onto A703 to Penicuik, Loanhead and home.

Stunning.

We went along the road through Carrington, past Gladhouse to the Peebles. We took the first right over Shiplaw to Lamancha, then to Romano Bridge, turning left down the Lyne valley. After the Lyne kirk we turned north through the Meldons (note toilet now permanently closed), down along a very muddy road to Eddleston. We then continued back home along the route pat Carrington.

By gum, it's chilly this morning.

The differential between the top here and even half way down was marked - it felt warm up here in the sun, yet there was frost in the field and at the side of the road just where the line of plantation is on the left.

By the time we got to the bottom my head was suffering from wind chill!

Well we did have great weather for cycling. Although there was mist in places, the light was generally really good, almost ethereal. Here is pic from just south of Portmore above the main road to Peebles. At this point it was warm enough to shed layers. However when dropped down into the valley, we quickly regretted that - it was freezing.

930 is fine - not much different from if I went to do the Saturday chaingang. Will mean I get up the hill before the Peloton too! I know the roundabout well - will pull in just past it on the left at the lane to Newbattle. I have your new number now so will let you know when I have successfully left without tyres exploding! Will take 20-25 minutes to get up the hill I think.

That'd be good. We could meet at the big roundabout on the a7 at the bottom of the hill after Tesco. The one with dalhousie road and the bonnyrigg distributor road crossing. Or alternatively at my house (can pm the address). How early do you wish to start? 9.30 too early?

Amir - I don't feel up for chaingang tomorrow - too much exertions on Wednesday night I think! Where are you planning to set off from? Lothianbridge via Carrington?

Hurrah it's the weekend and forecast is looking good. Thinking of going for a hilly ride instead of the ERC coastal chaingang. Perhaps to Eddleston, then the Meldons, Peebles, Innerleithen and back through the Moorfoots. If anyone wants to join me, let me know. Will start early so as to be back for a late lunch.
