Ah. Yes. I just broke the tail off my raceblade. That's how to fix it. Thanks.

Just bought a budget hand riveter from Lidl and can now add flaps to my mudguards.

My "new" QR skewers have arrived at home apparently. Bought via Ebay at a reasonable price compared to new (c. £40 each - they are Dura Ace), I am hoping that they are in good shape. Certainly they should stop the wheels falling off on my Sunday best bike - not a great USP.

FWIW the stem on my Raleigh Pioneer Trail is almost identical (the bars clamp is different), same silver finish. It's the 'riser' version, yours is the 'reach' version methinks.

"There is clearly more respect for old phones than bikes!"

"Irony?"

Oops - no, it was a typo. Must be more careful - that sort of error gets me in trouble!

"chdot - you will have to be careful not to spend more on the stainless bolts than the stem."

Fortunately "fastenings" are cheaper than you might think, though there is that phrase about half pees worth of blackstuff.

The wheels on my café racer are so old (probably '89) that the 105 hub is a 6 speed - almost unused though.

Today I gave it lower gears.

Newer Hyperglide sprockets fit if you file a bit off the big tab. I'd never actually filed the three rivets off the 6 sprocket part of a 7 speed cassette before - straigtforward.

Now I have a 26T cog for bottom gear - much better than 24T for storming The Mound.

Nice stem. It was upgrade day for me too. I got a shiny new Samsung Galaxy SII once the sales assistant had managed to stop laughing at my previous phone. Now I can get even more brick detail in those chimney shots.

I do believe I spotted that stem last week in the parts bin. Nice. I was after an alloy ahead stem for stokerdom purposes. Bit dearer, but very nice for £3.

(Saturday)

Got a 'new' stem at the Bike Station for £1.

Fitted it to my café racer.
