Once they have the planning permission granted presumably they will go ahead and fell the trees in any case regardless of any protest. Bah!! This is what they did on the Braidburn defences in Inch Park, I think they now realise they made a mistake...too late. This sort of thing I find really, really depressing. In fact, it seems to me that CEC just indiscriminately cut down trees if they are in the way of what they perceive to be progress.
