Newfoundland only slightly less divided than Northern Ireland historically, and I went through a publicly funded denominational education system, but somehow all that seems to have disappeared. (Except for those of my generation who still think its funny that boys can go to 'holy heart of mary' (which was an RC girls school in my time, and our fiercest rival).)

Roibeard - "denominational differences are normal at home". Surely a contender for understatement of the year!

@SRD Oops, sorry, just assumed it was called something else in Canadian...

Being from Norn Iren made me blind to the other reading - denominational differences are normal at home, and it is ecumenism that's remarkable!

Roibeard. yes. i get the idea. just thought it was a bit sad that churches could not get together on this and that such a metaphor was needed.

I know, different styles/preferences/beliefs etc as we have discussed, but still...at Easter of all times would be nice to see more ecumenism and fellowship...

but then, our service was exactly to my taste, so maybe as well !!

"time share" = shared ownership of property, with entitlement to occupy the property only within a particular time slot.

Often associated with high pressure sales techniques when being sold a share of holiday accommodation.

Good skills in waiting until all this unseasonably warm weather has passed and we get a cold windy morning. ;-) Interesting idea though. I have thought of running up so I can take a HUTshot* but have not been feeling well the last week and haven't been running.

Other hills are available.

Craiglockhart (Easter) is easy to get to by bike - through Napier Campus or Craighouse Place entrance.

Great west and north view of Edinburgh.

Might be better for sunset.

Has benches too!

????

I went to the 3Ms a year ago (Marchmont, Morningside and Merchiston). Just lovely. Despite butty lack.

Ours tends to be post sunrise, but does conclude for bacon rolls...

mmm...there is an Easter Sunday service on Blackford Hill at sunrise that is worth attending for those so inclined (at least one other occasional poster on here also goes) -- cycling there under the moon is great, as is the sunrise and service. Its supposed to be followed by bacon butties, but I've never managed that. I like the idea of cooking breakfast up there after! I just took a flask of tea last time.

Took a whim last night to take the camp stove to work so I could cook myself brekkie on Arthur's Seat this morning. And was I going to let a little wind put me off?

Seriously, sitting eating bacon, drinking freshly brewed coffee (at home, popped in a flask mug), watching a Kestrel hunting, seeing the sun come up, losing the feeling in your fingers from the cold, watching a metallic-orange-lycra-clad cross-country ski-training-bod on long rollerbladey things, is hard to beat.

Thoguh I might wait till spring before the next time - although a nice crisp clear winter morning would be nice...

Oh, and porridge next time. Easier/quicker than sausages, bacon and eggs.
