To the extent that I can remember discussion when the Ayrshire cameras were introduced that they were not recovering enough of the cost of installing them. It was downright dangerous trying to keep to 50 at Newbridge then slow to 40 just as the "rules don't apply to me" brigade were getting wound up for the M9 proper. There also seemed to be more respect than usual for the 50mph on the bridge and further south, even without noticeable enforcement. But the 40mph further south didn't have cameras on it (then?) and wasn't as well obeyed. I also stay at 50 until the 70 sign and have people passing me. I think, basically, from Cramond Brig a whole load of people simply drive at a constant 60 no matter which limit applies...</p> <p>And Smudge, exactly.
