Would they overtake us before the deadline? In the end we held out, and finished just over 50 votes ahead of our nearest rival. A tiny margin considering more than 30,000 votes were cast in total, but enough to ensure we won energyshare funding in the 'medium' category.</p> <p>We're delighted of course, but we couldn't have done it without your support. So thank you so much for everything you've done: every vote really counted and every vote helped helped move our community renewables vision for Portobello and Leith a step closer to reality.</p> <p>The funding will help us to complete the feasibility work including the wind monitoring and to take the project through to planning application stage, which we expect to happen during 2012. Be sure to watch this space for project updates from time to time.</p> <p>Please also spare a thought for our nearest rivals, Old Basing Scout Hut, who despite winning over 30% of the vote in our category, and having the second highest number of votes of all the energyshare projects, walked away without any funding. The two projects – one from Edinburgh and the other from Strathpeffer in the Highlands – have
chosen Scotland’s national day to appeal for online votes to help them
 win funding from the Energyshare fund.</p> <p>Portobello &amp; Leith Community Wind Energy Project</p> <p>Portobello &amp; Leith Community Wind Energy Project would see a community-owned wind turbine built at Seafield in Edinburgh. In 2010, PEDAL – Portobello Transition Town and Greener Leith, started working together to explore the feasibility of a wind turbine on land at Seafield Waste Water Treatment Works in Edinburgh.
