The bar has just been raised:

(Sorry, still can't work out how to embed the actual video. I don't know if it's because I use Chrome on Linux: any tips gratefully received)

At first glance it looks like a negative image, but it's not. Sure it's in black and white, but look closely and you'll see that it's actually a chap in a glowing suit snowboarding in the dark.

I think it's rather beautiful...

The skate park lights are programmed to switch off at 10.00pm. This was agreed with local commmunity reps and the city council. That is the main floods. That said, there is an ambient light on each of the four columns that switches on as the main floods switch off. These remain on until sun up. This is of course for the safety of the skaters, bmxers and scooter riders. In addition, the ambient lights were needed to ensure that the CCTV could monitor the park after lights out. Some cool night shots http://www.flickr.com/photos/shot2stun/tags/skatepark/

Aye, tis the Figgate.

Hmmmm. Bingham. Night. Innocent. Yeah.

I did actually try a shot at the cobbled road under the rail bridge to Porty from Duddingston, but there was just a little too much ambient light playing against the lightsabre.

And I know that park like the back of my hand, which is why it was so embarrassing forgetting about that drop!

That even light distribution is lovely, especially the crisp end of it.

I reckon you can beef it up some with a spare rear light gaffered onto the top of the sabre and pointing down to the handle. May or may not mean slicing the end off the sabre, though.

Nice work, fella, either way!

I have a lightsabre (yes, I am a Star Wars geek). Red Vader sabre with proper light up noise and everything. Right, that makes the decision for tonight's photo challenge.

My next experiment was going to involve plastic litrejons, formerly of milk, which ought to light up evenly enough and affix pleasantly on rider, frame and rack wherever best suits, but I'm letting my wee electrochemical pal sleep until Hogmanay.

Eureka! At home with the folks and I chanced upon those tubes you use when at the golf practice range to pick them all up. They're made of translucent plastic and light up along the length fairly nicely when you drop a couple of bike lights down them and it's the work of seconds to bungee them to a rear rack.

It's raining now, so I'll wait till tomorrow for more, but I think that might be the cheapo way forward.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but you know, we cyclists all create a wee mini-Tron effect just by having a few bits of reflective stuff in the right places on our bikes.

Used disposable barbeque with paper stuffed in the wire dragged after bike? More sensible: mounted on suitably fireproofed skateboard or trailer.

Actual sensible answer: String of fierycolour lights loosely set in ball at bottom of stout garden wire which is then affixed to bike so that it drags on the ground. The motion of the wire ought to shoogle the light stringball around well enough to look jaggy.
