inspired by your previous post, i've actually collected and completed my membership form, just need to hand it in (hopefully won't take as long as my spokes form did)

If you join Scotmid, it costs a pound, they send you £10 of food vouchers and a bag for life.

They do not sell bikes as far as I know. Any retailer will have experienced the customer who asks lots of questions but doesn't buy who then goes on line to get a cheaper deal. My preference is to support a local independent shop e.g. The Bike Chain. I have gone right off Wiggle and I have a slight fear that EBC is taking over the world, well East Coast of Scotland and Northern England. (Strangely not in Glasgow? Bet loads of my fellow West Coasters use the EBC on-line). I like the Co-op (both EBC and Scotmid) but have a little nagging worry about what EBC opening in your town does to the smaller local concerns...?

Asda/wal mart are another bunch of worker oppressors. Anyone else noticed that asda are the only supermarket that supplies motorised trolleys "for our valued customers" ( fat people that are so fat they can't walk).?

Asda are a four letter word according to a Mr Crolla in Newhaven.

Asda gets blame as Newhaven stores close

Luckily the bike business is not all commodity driven although I'm sure there are people here that buy off the web... Then they take their bike shaped object to The Bicycle Works or Bike Chain etc to see what's missing.

The Ultegra bike were only available from the larger stores (i.e. Gorgie) as a special, so they were only there for a week or so last year.

'Last June, Asda launched a range of British Eagle BSOs – Bike Shaped Objects – to widespread outcry from the trade, concerned that proliferation of BSOs would put consumers off cycling. Lidl also entered cycle retail in June when it stocked the Ultegra specced Stratos road bikes.'

Of course it will be vital to have a car so you can drive to a big 'out of town' Tesco/Asda etc to pick up your bike.

Lidl of course are more in town - though I don't remember seeing any Ultegra stuff last time I was there...

Will we see a replete of the Asda bike debarcle I wonder? It does say something about the demand for bicycles.
