The big tree across the Trinity tunnel path has been chopped into tiny bits today. All clear (bar some sawdust).

Don't they sit around counting up their gold plated pensions and dreaming of the mountain of diamonds they'll collect when they retire, like all of us council workers do?

I'm quite sure Forestry staff don't just sit around waiting for high winds.

I'm also sure that latest galicane blew a lot of trees and branches down.

There may be an argument for initial action to make routes passable rather than wait for complete tree removal, but I'm not sure that that would be particularly efficient.

Roofing and road maintenance are completely different, but tree removal is neither of them. East Team tweeted me back to say "Thanks for the tweet. We're already on it. This is already on the Forrestry Department's action list."

That might be a valid comment if the same staff do tree surgery and slate repairs.

I would have thought a council the size of ours (20,000+ employees) has separate teams doing roofing and road maintenance, but maybe not.

Any council workers able to comment?

Are we the last priority? We have no idea when problems were first reported. There does seem to be a pattern on this forum (and others) of complaining about a problem but not thinking to report it.

"As usual, we're the last priority"

Previously when there were trees down on the Roseburn Path they were removed in hours.

This storm was more significant. 40 trees down in the Botanics.

There are a load of trees down in North Edinburgh. The Leith river path, Trinity and Canonmills->5 ways are all blocked, although by Water of Leith you can just ride around on the grass (which is now destroyed), the other two require cyclocrossing.

As usual, we're the last priority.

I disappear for weeks on end. (watch me go again)
I really only came back to say RIP to the Lanark Road cyclist

Water Of Leith impassible thanks to tree coming down from the slope. Walkers can get past but I wasn't able to haul my heavy hybrid up the muddy slope with not very grippy shoes on.
Apparently there are a total of 6 trees.
Pity I was up for an adventure yesterday afternoon as there was still some daylight at 3.30 but it was fading fast by the time I got there and would have been cursing myself getting trapped between two trees a river and an unclimbable slope and a longer route home if I did get out.

Oh and Happy new Year folks for what it's worth

There I was riding along musing to myself that save for a few bits of branch debris the Innocent was pretty clear. Bang. Two big trees down together between the Tunnel and Duddingston Road West.

There is a route through, but it's a bit of a clamber and the bike gets constantly snagged on branches and there's a trunk 3-4 feet high to hurdle. I battled through, by which time there were about 4 or 5 other cyclists behind. I played porter with the first girl coming through and took her bike. Propped it on a branch then went back to help the next when I heard the girl I helped saying that she'd then do what I did for the next in line. I assume it got passed all the way down. Which was nice.

Interesting to note that the council has been brilliant at getting trees cleared. The ones that have fallen on roads at any rate. Let's start the clock counting on this one being cleared...
