Maybe it's not so bad. People do all that stuff now with the phone in their hand!

On HTC droids (other smartphones are available) the phone goes into a "Dock" mode where only those things you are allowed to do while driving (navigation, hands-free calls) are available on big buttons.

SatNavs stuck to the windscreen (I really hate that) is one thing, but now that Smartphones can do navigation these are going to be stuck to the windscreen instead.

Then it's easy to just quickly read that txt that has just come through. Check latest on Facebook at the lights. Before long you'll be playing Angry Birds in the outside lane of the motorway.

Infotainment is OK, but safety first

Given all this hoopla, it’s interesting that the Accenture study, which surveyed 7,000 people in seven countries, found that while drivers definitely want better communications and infotainment at their disposal, safety was their primary concern. That points out the inherent challenge of in-vehicle entertainment. How safe is it really to update your Facebook status while driving?
