Yep, that's the one. Plus £4 for the headset spacer (up 50p since it went out of stock, grr...) and postage brings it to £15.50

It does look rather nice, I must admit. Mounted on the steerer, I'd hope not to get road-surface-dinging because the striker will be perpendicular to the ground?

"Have you tried these bells? Is there an optimum sound to weight balance."

This is the difficult question. I've tried neither, so it's impossible to say which would be nicer. Possibly they've even come from the same far-eastern factory (for all I know!).

I am in the middle of a voluntary austerity drive so thought spending £15 on something that I've done without for the last 25 years is perhaps a bit of a fail... (not that I held back buying what I wanted for the rest of the bike).

Hmm. I tried to order the Electra brass dome bell from TBC but it's on indefinite back-order (no worries, I said).

But now FreshTripe have got in touch to say they're back in stock, and I can get my Velo Orange brass temple bell with headset mount if I strike now!

It's twice the price though... £15.50 instead of £7.65

What should I do?

Kapps - not accidentally setting the bell off = smooth surface under wheel. Not having to ring the bell intentionally also indicates a smooth ride home, free from road rage etc.

Having a nice brass bell or equivalent could be like the Lochgelly Tawse. The best belters never had to use it.

My old bell would occasionally be actuated by roads, but unpredictably. Every now and then it would be unfortunately-timed so that it might have sounded like I was deliberately dinging someone on the pavement or a passing bicycle.

Try Velorution in London. They supply certain Vo things (and other such niceties).

One thing I've found with KOTD is that because the dinger is a little brass weight on a spring, whenever you hit a bump, it goes "ding". and if you are on a badly surfaced bit of road it goes "ding ding ding ding ding ding ding" all the way along.

My new way to entertain myself while commuting is to see just how little I can get the bell to ding, meaning I'm cutting the smoothest route home :)

I think (it's on the other bike) that the similar one sold at Biketrax (possibly also EBC) has a two-piece clamp which could possibly be bodged onto a girthier tube such as a stem with some longer bolts...

KOFD is for small diameter (up to 25.4mm) round bars only. Clamp well machined out a pretty substantial billet of aluminium so don't think it could be bodged in any way shape or form.
