Brilliant suggestions for crossings those two locations. Utter pain in the proverbial as a pedestrian.

I ride up the Royal Mile every day and the only other things I can think of are sorting the cobbles at the top around the roundabout down from the Castle; and if they wanted to put in a Bike-Lane-Width gutter that would be super.

I hate driving down there. Problem is pedestrians don't stop and look before they cross then get a big fright when they just about get a van in the face!!! Luckily I'm a consummate professional and always anticipate such moves.

I'll do a Council FOI request to find out if its ever been mooted and knocked back.

Smoothing of traffic flow must take priority, unsightly and unnecessary paintwork on the roads, the usual excuses...

bax, yes, you're right! I couldn't remember where that was (just checked on googlemaps - need to zoom way in). I hate crossing there. Only good thing is that actually traffic tends to be moving slow enough that a confident pedestrian can be quite assertive and cars will give way.

There's zebra at end of Chambers Street - think top of Victoria Street and Candlemaker Row would be excellent locations too.

top of Candlemaker Row probably the more dangerous of the two, for peds.

nightmare left hooks and illegal right hooks..

"zebra crossings painted at the top of Victoria Street"

What a good idea. usually a nightmare for peds.

Does anyone know if there's ever been any push to have zebra crossings painted at the top of Victoria Street and/or Candlemaker Row?

I assume the heritage busybodies would scupper it anyway, but I've long felt that they are needed in both locations

I was invited to this, but I'm working so can't attend.

Not sure why folk would boycott, that's just cutting your nose off to spite your face.

"
But council leaders have admitted parts of Edinburgh’s showpiece thoroughfare have become “dreadful” to visit – as they triggered a new action plan aimed at transforming its fortunes.

Officials and councillors have conceded key parts of the Royal Mile are too clogged with traffic, have poor quality roads and pavements, are unsafe and unwelcoming, and are over-run with tartan tat shops.
