rofl, remind me to never upset you Min!

Went down and had a look at the bike at lunch time rim is a write off and I wouldn't trust the chain again any way. I worked out what I did to the rim at least. I think the wheel turned 90 degrees to the direction of <strike>travel</strike> fall as I went over and got bent by the force of my trying to move forward combined with my huge mass. Its only an Open Sport, a mtb rim might have had a better chance but I don't think a road rim is robust enough to take that kind of lateral stress.

Very impressive chainring tattoo. Glad you photographed it for posterity. Sorry you and bike are bashed up though.

I hope the people who didn't help you find that their saddles unexpectedly fall off the next time they stand on their pedals but don't notice it until they try to sit down again.

I say convert the trackies to a wall ornament. It looks like slate bearing the fossil of some spikily spined prehistoric beastie.

Awetotal power indeed, taking out a chain...

Ouch! Had a chain snap on me a while back, setting off on a hill. Luckily didn't fall off, just stuck like a lemon at the lights. Also luckily close to LBS, got it replaced, paid the man, set off again 20 minutes later with new chain, still using it.

Ah. In that case your complement of awe must indeed be greater than the partial awe implied by 'awesome'. Awewhole maybe? Or is that too close to something else?

glad you're okay!

Cheers.

Mnegh. I need to see this happening sometime so that I can understand how the wheel came to be buckled.
I can lend you a spare wheel (currently complete with inflated tyre) if you need one. Doesn't have a dynohub on it, though.

I think it was leaning on the kerb when my fat self landed on it, questioning my wheel building skills though. Going to try and bend it back into shape then true it up.

Thanks for the offer but I'll just have to swap to the racer till I get it going again.

I'd recommend changing down a gear or two before you stop.

Distinct lack of gears on this bike, which I think is part of the problem. I'm just too damn awesome. Says the guy picking himself off the pavement...

Did I ever mention the time I tutored my mother's mother in the art of using suction to remove the contents of an egg without entirely breaking the shell?

Where is the lawyer when you need them, I saw no disclaimer on that frame when I bought it! ;)

I'm not sure whether it was the salt that killed the chain so early or if it is an non ideal chain line.

Luckily last work day this week also last day of my twenties. Boo. Worst. Week. Ever.

+5 Awesome Power Bonus.

Did the same at the end of Princes St one day, not 'alf as catastrophic. Not like the time my foot slipped off wet pedals at newhaven. Broke a pair of headphones that day, thankfullt not head. Went clipless shortly after.

Argh!

Sorry to hear that Steveo and shame on the other 2 for not even lending a hand to get you vertical.

For the record, I accept no liability as I only sold Steveo the frame. He supplied his own moving componentry.

But yeah, sorry your chain snapped (I have a little card design on Flickr for this eventuality, but it features a recumbent rather than a Bowery.)

Just as I stood up to put the power down to come round from fountain bridge onto Semple Street... The bloody chain snapped! Down I went like the proverbial bag of tatties. Most embarrassing!

So minor cuts on my inside left leg, minor bruising to my right arm, broken chain and badly buckled front wheel. My track suit bottoms took the worst of it though... Just as well they weren't a pair of expensive non sport specific suit trousers.
