Hmmm. I just got CycleStreets to use it by picking very obvious start and end points and choosing the quietest option... maybe the section-by-section routing algorithm will only use it if it chances upon it, whereas humanbrains tend to think in big purple lines... (as stated above whilst I was fiddling about pasting in the route URL)

CycleStreets quiet routes generally use as many off-road paths as possible but there will be times when the algorithms behind the web site think that some routes may be too much of a deviation even though they may be fine to real people.

Of course CS depends on data from OpenStreetMap. If (extreme case) a motorway is marked as a minor road, CS might plot a route along it!

I don't know if the WoL path is still blocked around Balgreen (I assume so) or if OSM has the blockages recorded in the current data.

In response to query on another thread, I tried to generate cyclestreets routes for Balgreen to Botanics and Balgreen to Cramond, but in neither case did Cylce streets give me a route using the NEPN. Any suggestions / advice?

Is it just me? Ie would no one else think that those are sensible routes to do?

Maybe Cylcestreets needs a 'leisure cycling' option, along with a 'commute/transport' option. Or one which maximizes off-road?
