Fortunately its a sram chain so its got a funny link which just clips open and shut no need for those shimano joining pins i used to have to carry round duck taped to my trail chain tool.

All good now, just need to clean the bathroom!

Have you got the kind of rivet extractor with the extra set of pegs for freeing up sticky links?

And is it a normal chain or one you're going to need an oversize rivet for?

As you're prepared to lose a link anyway how about something drastic?

Heat it up - gas cooker or possible just a match.

Two pairs of pliers would be useful.

Nope i'm very good ;)

Yeah tried the chain tool as well i think its either got some of that red carp the council put down instead of salt in it or the hashy git who puts his bike next to mine has some how managed to bend it, though i'm leaning towards general dirt.

Chances are you can have all your gears still.

You don't put the chain on largest ring on front and back ever do you???

If you're worried, don't put on large front plus 2nd largest at back either.

BUT have you tried loosening problem link with link remover tool?

A link in my chain froze up yesterday evening so my commute home yesterday was somewhat slower than normal, every couple of strokes the chain lost tension so i didn't want to put any power down.

I've tried every thing today to get it moving, cleaned the chain on the bike last night, next i assaulted it with wd40. Today i went up to the coop to get a chain but they didn't have a 9 speed one for less than £30 so i got some strong degreaser and a brush to try cleaning the chain off the bike (only discovered sram power links last night) but its still not for moving.

Question is if i remove the frozen link am I going to have any problems for a week while the new one arrives, very luckily the one that's gone is right next to the power link so i don't have to split it part way.

tl;dr: can i loose a link and still have my gears?
