Heriot-Watt University bosses are also doing their bit to ease Hearts’ financial crisis, having agreed to allow Riccarton to be used as a training ground despite being owed £150,000.

"
Just caught the Scottish Government's latest TV advert trying to encourage people to walk short journeys. I know I (or you) aren't the target audience - but it is truly awful. To think this is costing hundreds of thousands of pounds (at least), which could have been used to provide some much needed infrastructure - which might actually encourage people to leave their car at home.

If the Government can't do anything useful, I suggest they buy all regular cyclists a nice cake with the cash rather than line the pockets of advertising companies.

Flights to and from Skye could start in 2014 group says

Resuming commercial flights could require capital spending of between £9.7m and £15.3m, according to a feasibility study published in March.

I said the same thing when they relaid pavements in Chalmers crescent a few weeks back.

Pavements were tip top compared to the 'off road' state of the road surface on the northern half.

Odd.

Pressure from local residents/councillor perchance?

The pavements on my street are dire too, have been for over a decade. Not holding my breath for improvements any time soon.

Ettrick Rd pavements were dire - very hard to get buggy along in places. Often used road instead. Lots of elderly residents, care homes etc in the neighbourhood.

But I rarely encounter another user along there, so not exactly heavily used.

I think I must be missing something if there is ten weeks work here.

Then again, I didn't realise that the pavement was so far gone that it needed this comprehensive treatment.

I have also missed the hoards of pedestrians or scooter users that use Ettrick Road.

Must be busy at going to school time.

"Don't know how bad the surface was before"

Pretty bad. similar to Merchiston ave, but less traffic/less parking. so easier to wind around worse bits.

Was going to post something awhile ago about how many cyclists I see on this stretch around 5-6pm, when I do nursery collection. It can be surprisingly busy with bikes!

It's the time of year when there seems to be money in budgets that has to be used up.

Various places seem to be getting some attention - this is Gillsland Road which had several patches done.

Don't know how bad the surface was before - or how they prioritise things...
