There is some sort of cycling maxim I can't quite remember that relates to being able to fix everything on a bike either with duck tape or oil.

Something like "If it moves and it is not supposed to, duck tape it. If it doesn't move and it should, oil it" :-P

Just to say, I went with cb's suggestion - and it worked perfectly. Made it a little dangerous as I got oil on the pedal too :P

Thanks Instrography for the offer - but I think my current pedals will last me a bit longer :)

I've got a pair of bog standard pedals (plastic platform) sitting in the garage that have never been used. Came attached to a new bike. I replaced them without them ever turning. Yours if you want them.

Thanks all, I'll take cb's suggestion first. I might just pick a cheap 2nd-hand-pair at the bike station when I next go in.

Dave: They do look nice, but they'd put the rest of my bike to shame. Although only £12...

Worth trying a bit of oil first.

I have not had this problem before but if it did occure I'd replace the peddles. You can get a decent set for under £30 these days, not bad for a year commuting.

Yeah if you've never replaced pedals before it's quite easy to strip the threads on the crank ( and the skin off your knuckles )

Probably just coincidence, but you can easily replace them - something like these should will last forever, and it's a job you can probably do at home (or the Bicycle Works off the Meadows will do for a few quid).

It could just be a cheap pedal. Is it plastic? You get what you pay for with pedals..

I've noticed my left pedal's really not rotating well any more - this is the pedal I stand on when I hop on and off my bike. Are pedals not designed to be balanced on like that?

Thanks! :)
