@DaveC I wasn't sure if you were googling setts or Trouée d'Arenberg. ;)

I suspect Heriot Row and Moray Place's setts would be turned into something akin to the Trouée d'Arenberg if buses were redirected down there.

About time really. There are huge manhole covers which have a 'moat' round them 4 inches deep and >6 inches wide in places. Queenstreet will be next as all traffic is being routed along it. They could open Moray Place and route cars along Heriot Row very easily. Sadly too many expensive houses and owners who would complain. If Heriot & Morap Place were opened to cars only it would leave Queen St for public transport which would speed up cross town public traffic flow!

Hurrah, and about time too. It is truly a nightmare. I wonder how many claims the council had from Lothian Buses, and/or car drivers too, that is usually more of an incentive than safety issues!!

I'd be interested to know just how bad roads need to get before they become a "safety risk". We all know how many real safety risks there are on so many roads. My guess is that the craters need to be big enough to swallow a car.

Meanwhile, 10 years ago -

"
THE queue of traffic heading west along Princes Street stretches from South Charlotte Street to Hanover Street. Cars are bumper to bumper, each locked in a battle of wills to ensure not one iota of space becomes available which might just let the nose of another vehicle edge in front.

"
MAJOR road repairs in George Street have been brought forward because the condition of the surfaces were so poor that it had become a safety risk.

Resurfacing work will run throughout the night for the next three weeks as part of a £350,000 project to repair the badly potholed road.
