Thanks - Eastside is just around the corner from me so I'll take it in there at the weekend I think. Cheers!

(Yep, the brakes are just like that.)

I've heard good things about Eastside and Soulcycles for more vintage types of bicycles.

There's very little that the Bicycle Works can't or won't service for you and they won't replace any bits unneccessarily or without consultation with you first.

A second vote for Eastside bikes. They're great and they know their stuff. Prices are keen too.

Main questions are - where do you stay and how far are you willing to travel with it?
If distancee is not an obstacle then I would recommend my locak shop (cos I want him to get the business and therefore stay in business ;) Freewheelin on Slateford Road, friendly fast efficient service, Chris or Nick (the younger funny one) will sort it up for you. Tell them where you heard about them ;)
Bike station good for self service but if you are like me and <strike>don't have the time</strike> want to know the bike is serviced by a pro and your brakes won't suddenly fail you doing 30mph on a steep hill (like I worry when I do mine) then

Like this?

Assuming all the bits are there, any competent bike shop shouldn't have a problem!

There are several bike businesses in Edinburgh that specialise in repairs.

Might be worth going to Bike Station for one of their DIY sessions, someone should be able to show you all you need to know...

http://eastsidebikes.com likes vintage.

Hello, i have an old (70s?) french mixte frame bike which I would like to have serviced. It is a lovely old lugged frame and in fairly good but not excellent condition and it is in real need of a service. Specifically it has mafac centrepull brakes which I would like to keep but which need adjusting, and i know from past experience that several of the bike shops I tried to take it to in London where I used to live would just say they would have to replace the brakes entirely with some shiny new 21st century ones. I'm not keen to do this.

Could anybody recommend a shop which is sympathetic to and experienced in repairing older/vintage bikes?

Thank you!
