Yes with a sign saying dual purpose path, cyclists give way to the weaker, less protected pedestrians?

I feel duty bound to point out that riding on the wrong side of the line, just like riding on ordinary pavement, is an offence..!

Roads are often closed for sporting events so I can't say I'd be upset, after all it's legal (and feasible) to ride on the grass, or just push on the pavement.

Interesting to speculate if the cycle lane was on the west side, whether they'd have closed the ped side (rather than had people running across the open path to get to the closed side)? I suspect it's a possibility?

"I would have just cycled on the pedestrian bit!"

Well I did (slowly) - not a fan of "cyclists dismount"!...

I presume there were a lot more runners earlier.

I think my standards are probably quite low since I am used to cycle routes being blocked off with no warning and no signage as to what you are supposed to do to circumvent it. So I suppose in this case there is at least a sign and cyclists haven't been completely ignored. I bet there wasn't any advance warning though. We are not important enough for that.

I don't think there is anything wrong per se, if it is a choice between closing the ped side and closing the cycle side then it would have to be the cycle side. It is just the "It's closed - **** off" part that I hate and which would never happen to a road without prior warning and diversions put in place.

I would have just cycled on the pedestrian bit! After all they walk on the cycle bit often enough. However, it is less inconvenient for cyclists as we do go so much faster and it is easier for us to go a long way round!!

Can't decide if it's 'reasonable' for (just) the cycle lane to be shut for some sort of sporting event -

Roads get closed to all traffic for all sorts of events (even cycle racing!)

Wasn't pleased when I came back and found the cones gone and the barriers still in place!
