There's a Bikeability training course being run at St. John's Primary in Portobello this Friday and next (2nd/9th), 1.15 - 5:00 on both days.

It's free, though you may have to make some commitment to teach BA at your local school. Not exactly sure.

They're short on numbers and looking for folks to have enough to run the course.

Finally got the right email and a very helpful gent at cyclingscotland has answered my queries one to one. I've pointed him to this site so he may (I hope!) make himself known here sometime soon.
Looking forward to the course now... :-)

Yup no mention of costs anywhere on the site or in the register interest sections. I'm willing to provide (a bit of) time and effort but cannot afford/justify £600 to help the Govt tick a box whilst saving cash(!)
Am awaiting confirmation/information with interest!

@Splitshift, do you have an email contact who can confirm the detail?

It seems that's the deal to become a national standard instructor. The course I did was free. Only qualifies me to assist an instructor though. Here's the link was talking about http://www.dft.gov.uk/bikeability/delivering-bikeability/becoming-a-cycle-instructor/

@splitshift sounds like you're doing the same thing I did but over 4 days? There is a full on 4 day course that seems to cost around £600 in which you become pistol carrying cycle sherriff although I can't find the link to it any more... they seem to have changed the site since yesterday....... @Dave The training is carried out by your Active Schools co-ordinator

We need volunteers at Bruntsfield but I suppose if yer kids don't go there then why would you volunteer there. South morningside have 10 parent volunteers but I was the only one from Bruntsfield

It's hard to get people to be able to commit to 2 hour a week f they have jobs. I'm self employed so it's not a problem for me. Also for a lot of the parents a Bike is an alien concept..... or so it seems. The parent council have a budget to pay after school clubs. I have been paid in the past for drum tuition but alas cycling doesn't fall into this category..

4 day course is the starter, supposedly gets us all we need to become expert cycle trainers ! its costing us nothing, or better be cause we havnt got anything ! To be honest it came to us, ie was recomended we apply, by a local schools educatin outdoors type person, who got our details from, in a round about way, Amy Hickman , at bike club !I have mailed them several times to confirm costs and other probs with the cycle scotland web site, it keeps asking me to log on even though i seem to need to do it on every page ! The free bit is a bit worrying, will prob have to revert to phoning someone and see whats what ! Its 26thapril, clackmanan, details on cycling scotland web page, courses avail, etc

@crowriver - it's also the Big Pedal, a competition between schools to see how can log the most cyclists (including parents).

Edinburgh >150 pupil primary league

Liberton is fairly far down the league, but the number of bikes appearing has filled the meager racks and increased from a low of 3 last month...
