It didn't look as if any part of the road was closed and it all seems quiet on the usual news channels so hopefully I have misunderstood the situation. It still looked bad for whoever was on the receiving end on the medics attention so I hope they recovered.

A bad sign would be if the road was closed for accident investigation for several hours, which is done if there was a fatal or potential fatal accident. Travel news sites didn't mention a road closure here, but the injuries could still be life-changing.

CrashMap shows 3 or 4 injury accidents here in 2008, none in 2009, and 1 in 2010, all slight. The Government's Safety Camera Programme won't pay for a camera to deter/detect red-light running motorists unless there has been at least 2 fatal/serious accidents, or 1 fatal/serious and 5 slight, or 10 slight accidents, directly linked to red light running, in a 3 year period. So even if this was the worst for RLJ motorists it shouldn't get a camera according to Scottish Government rules.

That junction is probably one of the worst in the city for RLJing (of motorists and cyclists). It's also one of the 'scooting' hotspots of the city (riders thinking that standing on one pedal and 'scooting' with the hanging foot means they're not 'riding' - never understood why, if you're going to the effort of semi-dismounting you don't just get off and walk - while scooting you probably have less control of the bike!).

Anyway, hope all concerned are not too badly hurt. Could, of course, be a pedestrian hit by car or bike, with either or that had stopped being a witness rather than directly involved. Keep an eye on the news channels.

Hope they're OK, there'll be a media frenzy if a red-light jumping motorist KO'd a cyclist on the back of the last death.

At the Meadows this morning at about 8.30, the junction with Summerhall place and Melville Drive.

I can't be sure because I couldn't see too well but there was a bike propped up at the side(may just have been a cyclist who stopped to help?) an ambulance and a lot of paramedics who looked very busy. Looked pretty bad whatever it was.
