"maybe lots of people were tripping"

Maybe - but I doubt if it was many - compared with any other pavement.

The WoL side of the street can't get that many pedestrians - and most will be leisurely watching the water (I suppose if they are not looking where they are going...)

The pavements (which are paving slabs) from stockbridge up to St Bernards well are still be replaced, diggers blocking roads etc, and when they are finished they are virtually identical to what they looked like at the start. Seems very pointless, maybe lots of people were tripping.

noticed this morning pavements on Merchiston Ave being redone (again!?), while road still pitted with lunar craters.

The pavements on St Clair Street and Hawkhill Avenue, together with approx the first 1m of road in from the edge were resurfaced last year. St Clair St in particular gets very little pedestrian use, and I have to say I was surprised, given the widths of both streets that no cycle lane (even an 'advisory one) was added.

Certainly a missed opportunity in my view, probably justified by use during football matches. However, given that Hawkhill Ave is closed when there's a home match on, I would've thought this would strengthen the case for widening the pavements and adding cycle lanes...

Thanks PS. Haven't been back since they started the work. Surface was a bit rough, but I doubt if it was done 'for cyclists'.

Didn't see that Anth, but saw this on Sat.

Well coming through the Meadows in the nice newly painted white (ignored by Smartcars) lines there is a cycle symbol has been removed from the road. You can see the scorch marks where it has been burned off.

But it HAS been replaced. By another bike symbol a foot before the old one...

Are we talking about places like Barnton Avenue (both West and East)? Seems like a quiet street and I don't remember it being too rutted - compared to other Edinburgh roads anyway. However, last year it got a lovely bit of resurfacing so it's super smooth.

It's on NCN1, but I presume that wasn't the reason for the resurfacing. Perhaps whoever was building the new house in each street, thereby damaging the surface with heavy vehicles, forked out for it? Or maybe someone very important lives there?

I'm trying to get some photos of places where work has been done that 'didn't seem to be that necessary' e.g. resurfacing quiet cul-de-sacs where the road and pavements weren't that bad (or well used).

Also (by contrast) things completely neglected - like Marchmont Road cycle lanes!
