Ooooooh you were nearly in Clarkson mode there.

Thanks, I'll feel happier using it in future.

scania spend millions creating computers that can pick the optimum gear for the road conditions, and cruise control can adjust the speed/throttle position infantesimley so many times a second , better than any leadfooted steel toe capped knuckle dragger lorry driver.
But we can still beat them for mpg in a similar speced truck with a manual box ! cruise control is for when we are on the phone, eating fish suppers and reaching across the cab for our copy of the sun ! joke !
Yes cruise control is better for mpg

splitshift.

Are they for or against cruise control? I like using it in a car on the motorway because it saves me creeping up over the speed limit.

I'm sure it's more complicated than this, but I don't really understand why hauliers haven't simply passed fuel rises on to the customers.

Secondly, I wonder about forcing retailers to pass (ring-fenced) delivery costs onto consumers, so that for instance, NZ lamb would not be cheaper than Midlothian lamb by quite such a large amount...

mmmmmm, as I now have an automatic (gearbox !) artic does that mean i dont count ? Fuel costs are horrendous, av 9mpg !!!!!! Managers are now shooting people in the back of the neck who dont improve ! Joking, but every journy is now scruitenised, fuel, mpg, idling time, time in cruise control harsh braking, fish supper stops, ok thats not for real ,but the rest are ! Wheras trailers were approx 75% full, now nothing gets to leave the yard unless its 95% full. Double decker trailers are not too less fuel efficient, and they must save money or they wouldnt use them ! One drivers wage, one fuel bill, one set of tyres to wear etc etc.52 pallets are not unusuall in these monsters, but the tyre wear and technical failure rate is horrendous ! You cannot actually buy these things any more, euro competition laws I beleive !approx 3500 miles a week !each lorry ! lot of fuel ! Still its worth it to deliver value bin liners !

Even though we put over 10,000 miles a year on our car, I'm looking forward to all such raises because they will just make bike-related purchases cheaper, according to the semi-official currency that is "marginal cost of driving Dave's car".

At the moment, a cycling <strike>toy</strike> essential equipment purchase that offsets car use is worth a heady 23.4p/mile, but the increase in duty will lift that to 23.7p/mile, effectively a permanent 1.27% discount on everything!
