@Tom - all my cycling books have already gone to the LaidBackLibrary...

The whole fees structure etc. really puts me off eBay. It's an awesome business model for them, but forking out for a listing fee, 10% cut off the top, then paying to get your money out of PayPal just doesn't do it for me. Especially the packing and posting aspect of selling something like a (non-rare) book... ouch!

I sold a full-face helmet before xmas for around £200 and it cost me £22 in fees, that was just leaving the money in my PayPal account to be frittered away too...

I'm currently selling some reasonably obscure but valuable books through eBay, and am mightily cheesed off that they've introduced a maximum item postage you can set which is well below what it costs to post a reasonably sized hardback book. (maximum you can charge is £3.15, a 1kg book costs at least £4.70 to post parcel rate) For the larger books I will courier them just to ensure that I cover my postage costs. Idiots.

If they're about cycling why not add them to the Book Swap at Laidback?

Are they of any particular genre? I'm afraid I can't help with the second-hand book shop part but I may be interested in relieving you of a number of them if they're fantasy/sci-fi!

I sold a few to Till's and a few to Armchair a few years ago. Didn't get a great deal for them but cleared out a few shelves and didn't have to waste any money posting things through Amazon marketplace.

Sorry for an appallingly off-topic topic!

I've been doing a clear out and have quite a lot of books in fair to good condition that I'm willing to see the back of.

Has anyone ever tried selling their books back to second hand shops? As I quite often buy second hand books, this would be pleasingly symmetrical. It's not easy to get to one during office hours to find out.. they must get them from somewhere though?
