The statistics are a bit meaningless without any points of comparison... the roads include the A9, A82, A96 (the roads to the north from the central belt), the A85 (connects Perth and Dundee to the north/west), and the A96 (Aberdeen to Inverness). So that's basically "all the main roads north of the central belt have 10% of the fatalities".

Yes, but do they have more than 10% of the traffic?

Remember the Loch Lomondside road? Windy slow and difficult to overtake, there were lots and lots of generally minor bumps, so they upgraded it all to make it "safer". Now no-one has time to admire the scenery and if there's a stupid overtake someone gets to die, but the number of accidents are down so that's ok.
Also despairing!

"The A92, which stretches from Dunfermline to Stonehaven, recorded seven."

Well, that narrows it down a bit...

So drivers are overtaking dangerously due to "frustration". Therefore we have to spend millions so that they can overtake without killing themselves/other people?

It would be much cheaper and safer to lower the speed limits on these roads, and extend areas where overtaking is banned.

Sigh.. the throttle is not a switch, and the ability to press it hard does not a driver make. (rolls eyes)

"Modern cars are very safe, with airbags and all that kind of stuff, so they protect the driver. Sometimes the roads don't."
