<description>&#60;p&#62;Good write-up, Dave.  I'm surprised the bearings are so accessible to the elements; Sturmey's designs were often preferable to others because of their ability to cope with British weather.  I wonder if the kickback idea could be used to engage a third gear?

<description>&#60;p&#62;Yeah, where possible I think right-mounting it is preferable, mainly because it projects into traffic, but also because you won't then find it jabbing your ankle if you walk with your bike on the right!&#60;/p&#62;
