Odd how none of them seem to think of trying to make the roads safer...

Well if the kids don't get their free bus passes then they will simply stop going to school. According to the EEN.

http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/edinburgh/Truancy-warning-over-move-to.6330159.jp

"An Evening News investigation carried out last month revealed that several administration councillors claim free travel despite living closer than three miles to the City Chambers and despite voting for the changes in the bus pass rules for children."

Surprise!

Today's story - poll too!

"Local councillors say they have been inundated with calls from worried parents about how their children will travel to school, with many saying the routes are too dangerous and too far for young people to walk on their own."

""The road is also very busy and the cars travel at 40mph so it's too fast for them to stop if children walk out on to the road."

they went out to three miles before and quite quickly went back into two. The grief caused for the small savings etc To get the weans back on the bikes the parents need to stop driving them to school. IF parents take the bus or even go to work in their cars but don't go via school then the traffic vanishes on the school run. I cannot see this happen but continue to lafff aloud at people stuck in school run jams as we walk past, me pushing my bike on way to school. My 12 year old finds this excruciatingly embarassing, but then she finds the way I breathe embarassing.

Sad thing is in much of Europe this wouldn't be an issue, the kids would simply cycle to school. Just as they would have done in this country 20 years ago.

The Council is saving money by removing free bus passes to those who live between 2 and 3 miles from school.

This is leading to a certain amount of (understandable) concern to do with cost (to parents) and safety.

Today's ENews story is about kids who live in "Brunstane" and go to Holy Rood.

"will now have to either spend £28 a month on a bus pass for his son, allow him to walk or cycle the busy route or drive him to school every day"

Does he not know about The Innocent or is that 'less safe' than the roads?
