In addition to a spare powerlink, I also like to carry a presta to schrader converter valve.

Bad luck, old chap. I usually carry a chain tool with me, though I seem to have mislaid my spare links somewhere. The only times I've had a snapped chain so far (touch wood) I've been close to a bike shop...

IME its not the power link you need to worry about. I've seen a couple of SRAM chains go and its never at the powerlink. Though having a spare and a chain tool will mean that you can simply remove the broken link and deposit a powerlink in its place and your away, marginally quicker than trying to rejoin the chain.

I must hurry up and get on with acquiring a couple of spare PowerLinks and secreting them somewhere about bags or bike now that both my chains are subject to their whims.

I got the late train which had 4 bike spaces, one of which I took up. £4 train fare and a free wheel down to The Bike Chain who opened up early when I chapped on the door, said a broken chain would not be replaced today as they are busy (and a repair person down) but would have a look. One Power Link later (mark himself did the job) and I was out of there in 5 mins. What a fantastic bunch of repair/shop guys, and I'm glad they are my LBS!! The Bike Chain rock! Cheers Mark!

Looking forward to my commute home now.

Bad luck dave. Have you considered a Forth Replacement Chain? It shoudl set you back around £1.3bn but it should be worth it.

Whilst being a rubbish way to start a morning for DaveC, this is still better than the other reading of 'Chain Broken on FRB.'

Hope this is Thursday's low point, Dave.

Damb, (sorry chdot) my chain came off on the way in and when I tried peddling it back on it split at the link. I had to shimmy and skip along to Dalment rail station where the next train is late (as per..) and will be chocca. Hopefully the train 10mins later will have room. Still it could be raining.
