Hey, if it works for you, good luck, enjoy*. :-)
(Of course if you were a proper traditionalist SS rider you wouldn't be having any truck with safety bicycles either)
;-))

(*just don't blame me when you discover the delights of anterior knee pain :-( )

and he said "There's very few hills you can't get up on a SS if you're man enough. Aye".

...and none so far that I can't get up on my big heavy (geared) tourer lol, but why bother fighting with a SS round here when gears make it sensible? ;-)
Or alternatively, true... but come back to me in a few years when your knees are as bad as mine and say that ;-)

Besides, my commute home involves approx a 400foot climb in a half mile with no opportunity to warm down afterwards, why break my knees trying to ride a SS up that everyday and suffer a gear too low to use going down it in the mornings, neither sensible nor practical for me!

And he said "I'm afraid singlespeeds round central Scotland are for masochists (or people who never carry "stuff" on their bikes!)."

I say, "Pish!"*. There's very few hills you can't get up on a SS if you're man enough. Aye. ;=)

* I'm reading my wee boy a story with child characters from 1956 and they say "pish!" all the time. I think it's an inoffensive exhalation. At least that's how I read it.

I can certainly see the attraction of chainless riding* but I'm afraid singlespeeds round central Scotland are for masochists (or people who never carry "stuff" on their bikes!).
Will be glad when chainless options start becoming affordable/practical in equal measure thought :-)

*(having just a couple of days ago had to scrub away 1500miles worth of wetlube and filth from the Surly's drivetrain, a spare toothbrush, neat gunk and it still took ages to do :-/ filthy aggravating job!)

I had an involuntary snigger at the 'you have nothing to lose but your chain'. It's nice.

Look not bad at all, the Audax needs a Brooks and Carradice (imho ;-))

Shame they don't do frameset only for those who are too picky about their components to buy a complete bike (or who produce their bikes by the evolution prinicple)

Perusing the EBC web site (as you do) I note that there are several new Revolution branded bikes available this year. A raft of Cyclocross bikes, plus these two caught my eye.

Revolution Audax: similar to the Dawes Clubman but with a double chainring/9 speed setup rather than Clubman's triple/8 speed.

Revolution Country Premier: expedition tourer, similar to Raleigh Sojourn but with lower spec frame (525 rather than 631) and butterfly bars. Cheaper than the alloy frame Dawes Karakum.
